Ubuchwepheshe bokubulala amagciwane be-Ultraviolet (UV) bube yibo obuhamba phambili ekwelashweni kwamanzi nomoya eminyakeni engamashumi amabili edlule, ngenxa yekhono labo lokunikeza ukwelashwa ngaphandle kokusebenzisa amakhemikhali ayingozi.

I-UV imele ubude be-wavelength obuwela phakathi kokukhanya okubonakalayo kanye ne-x-ray ku-spectrum ye-electromagnetic. Ububanzi be-UV bungahlukaniswa kabanzi nge-UV-A, UV-B, UV-C, kanye ne-Vacuum-UV. Ingxenye ye-UV-C imele ubude be-wavelength obuvela ku-200 nm kuya ku-280 nm, ubude be-wavelength obusetshenziswa emikhiqizweni yethu yokubulala amagciwane ye-LED.

Ukuvikelwa okubili kokuvimbela, okuvikelwe ngemuva kokuhlunga manje sekuyatholakala lapho izinhlelo ezisekelwe ku-mercury zazingasetshenziswa khona ngaphambili.

Lawa ma-LED angahlanganiswa nezinhlelo ezahlukene ukwelapha amanzi, umoya, kanye nezindawo. Lezi zinhlelo zisebenza futhi nokupakishwa kwe-LED ukusabalalisa ukushisa nokuthuthukisa ukusebenza kahle kwenqubo yokubulala amagciwane.
